As our country mourns all of the victims of Wednesday’s horrific mass shooting in San Bernardino, CA, this tragedy has hit one of our own. Lil’ Mama Renee Wetzel’s husband, Michael, was one of the victims murdered while attending a meeting at the site of the massacre.
Renee is a stay-at-home mom to their beautiful children (they are a mixed family with six children between them), so this loss to their family is not only emotionally devastating but the fear for their financial future is enormous.
We’ve set up this fundraising page for the family in the hopes of minimizing the initial financial strain Renee is feeling when she is sure to need every ounce of strength and focus to grieve and support her children through this devastating loss.
In a time when it seems like all hope is lost, that there is nothing we can do and we are paralyzed by sadness, this is something, albeit small, that we can do to make an impact. Please donate whatever you can to support the Wetzels.
As is natural in today’s social media world, some have questioned the validity of this fundraising effort, especially since the Facebook group for Lil Mamas is a private, secret group that cannot be found by non-members. Please know that 100% of these donations will go directly to the family. The following comment confirming the validity of our efforts was posted earlier today by Leonard Lee, the administrator for the youcaring site as a comment on the page:
“ATTENTION: We are satisfied that Renee Wetzel has been in contact with the organizers and The L’il Mamas group, and has given her approval for this fundraising campaign. In addition, we have processes in place to help ensure that all funds donated will be given to the Wetzel family.
We very much appreciate everyone’s concern. Protecting both our incredibly caring and generous donors, as well as beneficiaries is of utmost importance to us. This has been and continues to be a very tragic situation. We know emotions are high, and everyone only wants to do what is best.
In these situations, we urge that people exercise caution when donating to any fundraising effort involving this terrible tragedy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all who have been touched by loss and pain from yesterday’s events.

Renee and family are just beginning to cope with the reality of the loss of their husband and father. They have requested privacy and asked Celia to be their spokesperson for media at this time:
